Homemade buttermilk biscuits for supper. Oh the joy.
Buttermilk Biscuit Mix
8 cups flour
3 T. baking powder
1 t. baking soda
4 t. salt
1 1/2 cup shortening (Butter Crisco)
In a large bowl, cut ingredients together with a pastry blender. Store in the freezer.
Use about 1 cup buttermilk for each 2 cups mix. Drop or roll out biscuits and place into a preheated, lavishly buttered 10″ pan or skillet. (or, use bacon grease). Bake at 450 degrees 12-15 minutes, until top is golden brown.
Serve hot biscuits with plenty of butter or gravy, honey, or preserves. Use sausage patties or ham to make small sandwiches.
